The debate rages on if aluminum bats are safer than wooden bats. To support the ban of aluminum bats many different states have passed laws banning them. The reason for the bans is due to the fact that many people believe that the speed of the ball off of the aluminum bats is too fast for a pitcher to properly react. Balls hit off of aluminum bats have been the cause of a few deaths in the US, but in some cases a death has occured due to a ball struck off a wooden bat. Since the death rate is so low compared to the number of kids that actually play the game there is no real data that says aluminum bats are more dangerous. Makers of aluminum bats are against the ban, but parents and many legislatures are pushing to ban the bat.
