Strongest Arguement

My strongest arguement against aluminum bats is that they cause more injuries. Although studies have come up inconclusive for lack of evidence but the numbers that they do have is overwhelming in favor of of the point that aluminum causes more injuries than wood. The fact the the sweet spot is huge on an aluminum bat compared to a wood one and also the fact that the balls comes off of the aluminum bat with so much more speed. The faster the ball is hit the harder it is to react to the ball for a player and mainly for the pitcher. Personally i have gotten hit with three batted balls, two off aluminum and one off of a wooden bat, all of which hit my shin-calf area and they all seemed to be just as fast. That may have been due to the fact that the aluminum batted balls occurred in 8th and 9th grade and the ball off the wooden bat occured in 10th.

Even though studies have come up inconclusive and their is a lack of evidence that aluminum bats cause more injuries, I feel you could easily argue that they can potentially cause more injuries because it is proven that its density can allow balls to go farther at higher speeds.

Another thought that you might want to consider, not only are wooden bats safer, they are the way of the future. What I mean is that if you play ball after high school all you ever use is wooden bats so players are now at a disadvantage if you only ever used aluminum bats.

I appreciate your anecdotal evidence on this issue, but you're facts are wrong re the speed current metal bats come off the ball. We have established a grassroots effort to address facts from fiction, it's called the Don't Take My Bat Away Coalition (www.DTMBA.com). While we believe leagues and coaches should choose the bat of preference, we reject those claims that current metal bats are more dangerous. The science and statistics are totally in our corner on this one too. Check out the site and read for yourself. Thanks for your post, this debate is healthy but it shouldn't be based on rhetoric or hearsay.
